CTL Summer Theater Getaway
1 Ticket Remaining
What: The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
When: Saturday, July 28, at 3 p.m.
Where: Historic Folsom House, North of Hwy. 8 at 272 West Government Street, Taylors Falls, MN
Tickets: CTL has purchased 16 tickets, which are available to faculty and staff on a first come, first served basis.
Six professional performers known for their work on the stages of Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater, Jungle Theater and Theatre de la Jeune Lune will debut a new site-specific production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard in Taylors Falls at the Historic Folsom House from July 25 through 29. The production also features four local high school and community actors from the Taylors Falls area and includes live music from local musicians.
This production focuses on the struggles of a family in the throes of losing their estate through foreclosure and was chosen to bring attention to the rash of farm foreclosures in Minnesota farming communities. Although inherently tragic, this production will illuminate the comedic and eccentric nature of Chekhov's rich characters. Each of the production's performances will host only 30 to 40 audience members. Actors, dressed in period costumes, will lead the audience members into areas of the home (the kitchen, living room, dining area) where they will watch scenes and intimately experience the interplay of the characters from close range. Other scenes will move the audience outside to the yard and porch of the property.
The project is being spearheaded by Luverne Seifert, professional actor/director in the Twin Cities, as well as Head of the B.A. Theatre Performance program at the University of Minnesota and Darcey Engen, performer and Chair of the Theater Arts Program at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
The production is being made possible by an Arts Tour Minnesota grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
To obtain your tickets, contact Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu). First come, first served.

Enrollment Center Summer Hours
The Enrollment Center starts their summer hours this week. We will be open Monday through Friday, 8:30-4:30 p.m. We will resume our normal business hours on August 20.
Free Meals at Coyle, Farmers Market Begins 7/3
For us, summer always means fresh vegetables and good eating. The Campus Kitchen at Augburg College works to engage the campus with the community through the work of making good food accessible to everyone. Two big things you should know about:
Free Meals for Youth: Through the USDA Summer Food Service Program, we're able to offer free hot and healthy lunches and snacks to youth 18 and under at the Brian Coyle Community Center every day all summer long. Meals will increasingly include local vegetables as they come in season. Lunches 12:30-1 p.m., snacks 4-4:30 p.m. As an example, the menu this week was beef hot dogs and fruit; egg fried rice; Somali rice with chicken and vegetables; beef and bean tacos; grilled cheese with fruit.
Farmers Market: Beginning July 3, the Farmers Markets at Brian Coyle and Augsburg will run every Tuesday through Tuesday. Hmong and Somali farmers will sell organically grown vegetables, and Campus Kitchen will sell honey, olive oils, and other healthy items. We accept WIC and FMNP vouchers and now EBT. Translation available in Somali, Amharic, and Oromo. The market runs from 11-1 p.m. at Brian Coyle and 2-5 in front of the Augsburg Foss Chapel.

Public Achievement Work at Fridley Middle School
The Public Achievement model brought to Augsburg by the Center for Democracy and Citizenship is being used by student teachers in Augsburg's special education program. After a successful pilot last year, student teachers again deployed the model at Fridley Middle School this year, to resounding success.
Here's a link to an article about the program in the recent Sun Focus newspaper: http://focus.mnsun.com/2012/06/fridleys-ebd-students-making-change-in-school-community/
Congratulations to all involved.
