CTL Summer Theater Getaway
What: The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
When: Saturday July 28 at 3:00 pm
Where: Historic Folsom House, North of Hwy. 8 at 272 West Government Street, Taylors Falls, MN
Tickets: CTL has purchased 16 tickets, which are available to faculty and staff on a first come, first served basis.
Six professional performers known for their work on the stages of Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater, Jungle Theater and Theatre de la Jeune Leune will debut a new site-specific production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard in Taylors Falls at the Historic Folsom House from July 25 through 29. The production also features four local high school and community actors from the Taylors Falls area and includes live music from local musicians.
This production focuses on the struggles of a family in the throes of losing their estate through foreclosure and was chosen to bring attention to the rash of farm foreclosures in Minnesota farming communities. Although inherently tragic, this production will illuminate the comedic and eccentric nature of Chekhov's rich characters. Each of the production's performances will host only 30 to 40 audience members. Actors, dressed in period costumes, will lead the audience members into areas of the home (the kitchen, living room, dining area) where they will watch scenes and intimately experience the interplay of the characters from close range. Other scenes will move the audience outside to the yard and porch of the property.
The project is being spearheaded by Luverne Seifert, professional actor/director in the Twin Cities, as well as Head of the B.A. Theatre Performance program at the University of Minnesota and Darcey Engen, performer and Chair of the Theater Arts Program at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
The production is being made possible by an Arts Tour Minnesota grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
To obtain your tickets, please contact Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu). First come, first served.
