3rd Annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge

Auggies are invited to be part of a winning team by joining their faculty and staff (full-time, part-time, adjunct) colleagues to participate in the 3rd annual Auggies vs. Tommies Fitness Challenge. Auggies during 2010 and 2011 won the challenge, which is part of the statewide BizicallyFIT 2012 Health Challenge.

Please sign up for the Health Challenge today. Currently, we have 130 Auggies registered for the challenge. We'd like at least 100 more Auggies to join the ranks. St. Thomas has 151 people registered, so we need to boost the numbers a little to level the playing field. We had almost 200 people participating in 2011.

The competition kicks off on February 13, and runs through May 4. This year, participants can log their exercise minutes by text message, or the Health Challenge website. More information about reporting exercise times will be shared as we get closer to the kickoff date.

Signing up for the Fitness Challenge is easy, and only takes a couple of minutes. In addition, we already have a great list of Auggie Captains, some of whom still are scouting for additional teammates. To register, just log on to the Health Challenge website at http://www.2012healthchallenge.com and then do the following:
1. Click "sign up today"
2. Fill in the top part of the form
3. Choose "colleges and universities" for your affiliation
4. Select your interests and goals (optional)
5. Select "Challenge Enrollment," "exercise" division
6. Then just join a team that is already in existence (you may also choose to start another team).
7. To join a team, use the team codes shown below (if a team is full, please try a second team):

Regardless of which team you are on, we are all ONE TEAM - AUGGIES!

Minnesota Special Olympics Polar Bear plunge

Greetings Augsburg Community,

It is I, Officer Bob Peterson, your favorite Public Safety Officer, here to let you know that it's that time of year again my teammates the "Masons of Minnesota" and I will be participating in the Polar Bear Plunge. The Polar Bear plunge is an event sponsored by the Minnesota Law Enforcement Association to raise money for the Minnesota Special Olympics.

The Special Olympics is an organization that helps individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities through organized sporting activities.

This year will be our second year participating in the Polar Bear Plunge. In 2011 our team raised $6,200 dollars. This year we have set our goals higher, we have committed ourselves to be an official sponsor. Our goal for 2012 is to raise a minimum of $20,000 dollars in pledges. Thus far, the Masons of Minnesota have raised $4,464 dollars for this event. We have also spoken with Minnesota Masonic Charities and have secured a grant of $10,000 dollars which brings our pledge total to $14,429 dollars.

As I mentioned our team's goals are higher, and we need your assistance. If you would like to support us by making a tax deductible monetary pledge please visit the link listed below.

If you would like to participate by joining our team to "take the plunge" please contact me via email. The plunge will take place at Thomas Beach at Lake Calhoun on Saturday March 3rd, 2012 the exact plunge time is to be determined. Hope to see you there!

Thank you,
Robert Peterson
