Teaching and Learning

Thinking About Teaching and Advising

Modeled after the popular Speaking of Scholarship Series, these presentations and conversations are designed to share what we are learning about teaching and advising. Sessions are scheduled on Thursdays from 11:50-1:20, and involve presentations followed by informal conversations about the issues raised by these experiences. The intent is to increase awareness of teaching innovations on campus and learn from each other's experiences. A light lunch is served. The remaining sessions this fall will include:

December 1, Foss 175 – Velma Lashbrook, "Lessons Learned from Using Team-Based Learning in a Research Methods Course"

If you plan to attend any of these sessions, please rsvp to Sarah Hedstrom (hedstrom@augsburg.edu), so we can have adequate food and handouts.

Doctor of Nursing Practice Receives Accreditation

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program receives accreditation - The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has granted accreditation to Augsburg College's post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program for a period of 5 years, the maximum timeframe for accreditation of new programs. Officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Accreditation Agency, the CCNE is an autonomous accrediting body that ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs throughout the country.

Augsburg's DNP program is a practice doctorate, as distinguished from a research doctorate or PhD. It is unique in that the curriculum has a transcultural focus on health in community life, both locally and globally. By providing students with practice opportunities in diverse socio-cultural contexts, the DNP supports students to envision new models of holistic practice across care settings and care systems. Emphasis is on providing leadership for eliminating health inequities through peaceful, just and collaborative actions that uphold and improve human potential.
