Snow Emergency & Bicycle Information
When a significant amount of snow falls, the city of Minneapolis declares a Snow Emergency to remove accumulating snow from the full width of city streets. If you are parked on a city street and do not follow the snow emergency rules, your vehicle will be ticketed and towed by the city.
If you park on city streets, please visit the city of Minneapolis snow emergency web site. Here you will find the snow emergency parking rules along with an interactive map showing where you can park and when. The snow emergency parking page is:

It is NOT Augsburg's responsibility to notify you of snow emergencies on city streets. If the city tows your car, it will cost you several hundred dollars to get it back. If you park on city streets, I STRONGLY recommend that you subscribe to e-mail/SMS and phone notification of snow emergencies. The following links will take you directly to those services:

If you have an Augsburg parking permit and are properly parked in one of our lots, our maintenance crews will do their best to plow around your car. If we need you to move your vehicle, we can look you up by your license plate if it is registered in parking services. If need be, you can check out a shovel with your student or employee ID card at the DPS desk in the Urness/Mortenson lobby.
Day (temporary) parking passes for Augsburg lots are available for $5 through Augnet's Parking Services. Passes are limited.
BICYCLES:
Bicycles must be parked and locked in approved bicycle racks on campus. Bicycles parked along fences or other unapproved areas may be damaged during snow plowing or may be removed by Public Safety to allow for plowing.
Those who do not plan to ride during the winter months are encouraged to store their bicycles at their homes if possible. Thanksgiving break is a good time to load it up and take it home.

Embedding Diversity and Global Learning
This series of workshops focuses on Augsburg's Model of Diversity and Global Learning and how it is being used to help embed diversity and global learning in the curriculum and co-curriculum. Sessions will be held from 3:15--5:00 on Mondays.

The intent is to increase awareness of teaching innovations on campus and learn from each other's experiences. A light lunch is served. The remaining sessions this fall will include:

Ideas about Inclusiveness
This series of conversations is designed to help faculty and staff understand how to create an inclusive learning community that values all of its members. It includes discussions of teaching, advising, and coaching skills; and dialogues about specific differences and how they impact a sense of inclusiveness. This series includes a number of well-received sessions presented at the Creating and Inclusive Campus Conference last May.
These sessions will be held on Mondays with lunch available at 11:45. The sessions will commence at 12:00 and end at 1:15. Remaining sessions include:

The Integrated Term (I-Term) is being offered this Spring 2012, and is open to all students.
The theme: "Fate of the Earth 101: Consumption of Food, Fuel and Media in U.S. Culture."
Students receive credit for three courses:
* ENG 270 "Environmental Literature"
* POL 170 "Law in the U.S."
* SOC 121 "Introduction to Human Society"
The I-Term will be taught by Lars Christiansen, Sarah Combellick-Bidney, and John Harkness.

Leader-Manager Circle
Velma Lashbrook will lead a series of conversations about leader/manager responsibilities based on Jim Collins' Good to Great and his monograph for the social sector, Participant will also complete his diagnostic tool and identify strategies for improving performance within their work units. Sessions will be held on Mondays from 8:30-10:00 in Lindell 202, and will include coffee and bagels or muffins. The remaining sessions include:

Beginning at 6:00am on Wednesday, November 23, until approximately 6:45am, voicemail services will be intermittently unavailable on campus due to scheduled maintenance. During this time, callers will be unable to leave messages and users will be unable to access their messages.

Bethany will host a Thanksgiving Community Meal this coming Sunday, November 20, after worship at 11:30 am. Free to all, this meal will include turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and all the fixings - followed by pie, of course! Come for worship at 10:00 am and stay for a wonderful meal. Please join us in celebrating thanks for all of the gifts we share in our community.

Congrats to Emerging Leaders Program Graduates
We would like to congratulate the 30 first-year students who have graduated from the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) this fall, the highest number of students who have ever participated in the program!
ELP is a 10-week leadership program designed to develop comprehensive leadership and educational experiences of students. The program strives to accomplish this through the development of, exposure to and participation in social, cultural, multicultural, intellectual, recreational, community service, leadership abilities and campus governance involvement.
A special thanks to ELP mentors Nate Althoff, Elan Dillner, and Susie Mechtel, who planned and led the classes, as well as Kofi Abaidoo-Asiedu and Joshua Peaslee, who both coordinated the program.

Most Restrooms Will Be "All Gender" on Mon, Nov 21
On Monday, November 21, the majority of bathrooms on campus will be temporarily designated as "all gender" in order to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance. This means people of all gender identities may use these facilities.
Transgender Day of Remembrance honors all of those who have been the target of harassment or violence for being transgender or gender non-conforming. Converting the majority of restrooms on campus is aimed at highlighting the lack of gender-neutral facilities on campus, as well as the harassment many students, staff, faculty, and visitors encounter on campus and the greater community in areas such as gendered restrooms.
Gendered (female / male) restrooms will still be available in the following locations on campus during the day:
Basement of Foss Center
Kennedy Center (all floors)
3rd floor of Oren Gateway Center
3rd floor of Science Building
Queer and Straight in Unity also invites all students, staff, and faculty to a continued discussion around all-gender bathrooms and other issues facing transgender communities in that evening at 7:00pm in Marshall Room.

Advent Vespers is coming up and we need volunteers to help usher! Not a music major or familiar with the music department? Who cares! Anyone can help out: students, faculty, family members and friends.

For the 2012 MLK Convocation on Monday, January 16th, the MLK Committee would like to invite Augsburg students, staff, and faculty to participate through music, dance, spoken word, and short theatrical performances. Three pieces will be chosen by our Emmy Award-winning guest host, T. Mychael Rambo. All pieces should be about 3 minutes in length and should relate to Martin Luther King, Jr., peace, or social justice in some way.

Annual Benefit Enrollment Period Ends TODAY
We would like to clarify some frequently asked questions regarding the annual enrollment action steps for 2012. Please take a moment to read this email to ensure you understand what you need to do to maintain or add/drop coverage for the 2012 plan year.
Annual benefit enrollment started on Monday, November 7, 2011 and will go through this Friday, November 18, 2011. All forms must be turned no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, November 18.
WHAT YOU MUST DO:
· You MUST turn in an enrollment form (see link below) if you wish to add or drop health and/or dental coverage for yourself and/or your dependents.
· You MUST turn in a an enrollment form (see link below) if you are NOT currently enrolled and wish to enroll in health and/or dental.
· For those who wish to participate in the FSA (Medical and/or Dependent Care), you MUST turn in an enrollment form (see link below). Your election from 2011 will NOT carry over into 2012.
· You do NOT need to do anything to keep your current elections for health, dental and optional life and AD&D insurance.
· You must turn in the form contained in these links if you wish to increase or decrease your current optional life (http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2012_Benefits/OptionalLifeForm.pdf) and/or AD&D election (http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2012_Benefits/OptionalAD&DForm.pdf).
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION for the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plan and the Health Savings Account (HSA) plan:
· To participate in the FSA (Medical and/or Dependent Care), you MUST turn in an enrollment form (see link below). Your election from 2011 will NOT carry over into 2012.
· The College will switch HSA providers from US Bank to OptumHealth for the 2012 plan year.
· To enroll in the HSA, you must fill out the enrollment form (see link below) AND the HSA Supplemental Enrollment Form
(http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2012_Benefits/HSASupplementalForm.pdf). Your election from 2011 will NOT carry over into 2012.
· Finally, for those who are currently enrolled in the HSA plan with US Bank or another carrier, you have the option to roll over your current HSA to OptumHealth. If you wish to do so, you MUST fill out the HSA Transfer/Rollover Form (http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2012_Benefits/HSARolloverTransferForm.pdf).
· If you keep your US Bank HSA account, you will be assessed $3.50/per month by US Bank starting in March 2012.

Phillips Scholarship Information
Phillips Scholarship Deadline
The Phillips Scholars Program is administered by the Minnesota Private College Fund in partnership with the financial aid offices of 16 private colleges and universities. The program is funded by the Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation which recognizes and rewards private college students who strive to create a better life for those with unmet needs.
Selection criteria includes:
2.75+ GPA
Must be a sophomore in the 2011-2012 academic year
Demonstrate current financial need
Committed to designing and implementing your own community service project

I am a single woman expecting a baby in February 2012. I am in need of child care on weekdays from approximately 3pm-10:30pm at my home in New Brighton. I am open to having a live-in woman in my home and will offer room and board as well as small stipend in exchange for child care. I am looking for an individual who has newborn experience, is responsible, and enjoys being around children - someone who is honest and has solid Christian values.
