Batalden Student Fellowship Applications

Augsburg Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students are invited to apply for Fellowships to work as project leaders on campus–community collaborations in applied ethics. Fellows will serve as research assistants on projects relating to a range of initiatives aimed at decreasing the social and ecological footprint of our campus or in assisting with similar work being done by partner organizations. Current and potential projects include reducing bottled water consumption on campus, improving recycling and composting of campus waste, decreasing energy use, and work on developing a biodiesel processing unit for use in Africa and/or Central America. Students, faculty, and staff can propose other projects that fit within the general parameters of the program.

Fellows would receive $9.15/hr. with the total hours worked to be determined by the nature of the project and the time availability of the student. Applications accepted on an on-going basis until all fellowships are filled.

Applications should include a CV and a one-page summary of the work you would like to do including an estimate of the number of hours would be spent on the various components of the project, and can be submitted to Human Resources. Fellows will work out an actual work plan with Prof. Underhill and other project members, and submit a short report once the fellowship is completed detailing the work they accomplished. Fellows are encouraged to do this work in the context of a course with related content or skills training.

For more information or questions about the program please contact Prof. Underhill at underhill@augsburg.edu

Designing Meaningful Learning Experiences

Monday, October 11, 7:30-9:00 am, Oren Gateway 100

The second session of our Foundational Series on Student Learning will explore how to design meaningful learning experiences. Bring a course syllabus or program outline to get the most out of this workshop. Using L. Dee Fink's integrated approach to design, we will explore the 5 critical questions involved in design, provide examples, and give you an opportunity to reexamine your course or program and apply key principles to improve its design. We will also examine Fink's model of significant learning experiences which can help you discover ways to make the activities you use more impactful or create new ones that facilitate deeper learning. This series is designed to address the basic needs faced by anyone who designs learning for our students and is looking for new ways to have a more significant impact.

All faculty and staff are welcome to participate. Coffee and pastries will be served. Thanks to all of you who attended the opening session; we hope to see you again.

Facilitators: Stu Anderson, Physics, and Velma Lashbrook, MAL. Please rsvp to lashbroo@augsburg.edu
