General Announcements

Change to Classroom Trash and Recycling Procedure

Starting fall semester, all trash and recycling receptacles will be removed from classrooms and some meeting rooms throughout campus. Larger containers will be located in strategic hallway or central locations to make the disposal of refuse as easy as possible. Centralizing trash and recycling containers will make recycling and waste disposal more efficient and cost effective here at Augsburg College. Please place your trash and recycling in the appropriate containers at the trash/recycling station nearest to your classroom or meeting room on the way out of the building.

The initiative is being implemented by Custodial Services and Facilities Management in the hopes that it will increase consciousness of the recycling program and prevent commingling of trash and recyclable materials. This practice has been successful at other colleges like University of Minnesota in Bemidji and also at Macalester College.

Please take care to place items in the correct receptacle (for information on what can be recycled, visit http://www.augsburg.edu/green/rrr.html). Thank you for your cooperation and contribution to Augsburg's efforts to promote green practices.

Parking Advisory for Weekend Events

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/9/8/gen090810.aspx

MINNEAPOLIS -- There is a parking advisory for fans wishing to attend this weekend's athletic events -- the Augsburg Invitational volleyball tournament on Friday and Saturday (9/10-11) at Si Melby Hall and the Augsburg football game against Martin Luther on Saturday (9/11) at Edor Nelson Field.

Because it is an Augsburg For Adults (Weekend College) weekend, parking in ALL campus lots will be limited to Augsburg parking permit-holders when classes are in session. NO ATHLETIC SPECTATOR PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN ANY AUGSBURG PARKING LOTS, including "Lot L," the large parking lot adjacent to Edor Nelson Field and Si Melby Hall, during that time. Lot L will be staffed and individuals without proper permits will be turned away. Lots will also be patrolled and non-permit-holders will be ticketed and/or towed at owner's expense.

Volleyball and football spectators are encouraged to park in the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview "Yellow Ramp" (click for map). The entrance is located off of 23rd Avenue South, north of Riverside Avenue and behind the HealthPartners clinic -- roughly a two-block walk to the Augsburg athletic facilities. Hourly rates for the Yellow Ramp: $2 for 0-to-1/2 hour; $3 for 1/2-to-1 hour; $4 for 1-to-1 1/2 hours; $5 for 1 1/2-to-2 1/2 hours; $6 for 2 1/2-to-3 1/2 hours; $7 for 3 1/2-to-5 hours; $8 for 5-to-6 hours; $9 for 6-to-7 hours; $10 for 7-plus hours.

There is also on-street parking available on the streets around Murphy Square Park in the center of campus, as well as metered parking (enforced 24 hours a day) on Riverside Avenue. Please note that all on-street parking has time limits or is metered; please be aware of the time limits where you park.

Parking will be allowed in Lot L for the Augsburg women's soccer game against Dubuque (Iowa) on Saturday at 7 p.m., and the Augsburg men's soccer game against Clarke (Iowa) on Sunday (9/12) at 2 p.m., since those games occur after Weekend College classes end.

For more information, contact the Augsburg athletic department at 612-330-1249 or the Augsburg Department of Public Safety at 612-330-1717.

Al-Hameed Named to Team of the Week

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2010/9/9/fb090910.aspx?path=football

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College wide receiver Muneer Al-Hameed (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS) was named to the national Team of the Week by D3football.com for his efforts in Augsburg's season-opening win, it was announced on Thursday.

It's the first time Al-Hameed has been named to the Team of the Week by D3football.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III football.

A two-time All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference second-team selection, Al-Hameed caught 10 passes for a career-high 178 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for another TD, in Augsburg's 62-10 win over Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday.

Al-Hameed caught touchdown passes of 37 and 15 yards, while also throwing a 47-yard scoring strike on a wide receiver option play in the second quarter. The 178-yard effort was Al-Hameed's 10th 100-plus-yard performance of his career, and he reached double-digit figures in catches for the sixth time. Al-Hameed now has 198 career receptions (fourth in school history) for 2,435 career yards (third in school history) and 15 career touchdowns.

Augsburg hosts Martin Luther College in another nonconference contest this Saturday (9/11) at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg has its first four games of the season at Edor Nelson Field.
