Theatre Auditions: The Three Sisters
Fall Main Stage Theater Auditions, September 14 - 16
Casting: 6 - 7 female roles; 9 male roles
The Augsburg Theater Arts Department will hold auditions for its fall main stage production, The Three Sisters, by Anton Chekhov, directed by Martha Johnson. Auditions will be held in the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, Foss Center, Monday, September 14 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. and Tuesday, September 15 from 3:30 - 6:00. An audition sign-up sheet will be posted on the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater door in the Atrium of the Foss Center.
All Augsburg students are welcome to audition! Audition monologues and copies of the play The Three Sisters have been placed on reserve in the library under Martha Johnson's name. Please choose and carefully prepare two monologues from those provided. It is recommended that you read the entire play in order to have a sense of the tone of the piece and the nature of the characters.
Call-back auditions will be held Wednesday, September 16, from 6:30 - 10:00 p.m. Rehearsals will begin September 21, and performance dates are November 6 - 15.
Description of The Three Sisters: One of Chekhov's most beloved plays, The Three Sisters portrays the young Prozorov sisters, who struggle to find meaning and happiness in their lives as they come of age in a remote and ugly Russian town far from their beloved Moscow. As described by Maurice Valency, "No play has ever conveyed more subtly the sense of the transitory nature of human life, the sadness and beauty of the passing moment." Typical of Chekhov's works, The Three Sisters is a masterful blend of comedy and poignancy.
