Biology Colloquium - Thursday, Feb. 19
This month's Biology Colloquium meets Thursday February 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Kennedy 303/305.
Albeit a week late, it is an occasion to commemorate the life of Charles Darwin (b Feb 12, 1809) by screening a new film from David Wollert called "Paradise Lost: The Religious Life of Charles Darwin".
*NAMED EDITOR'S PICK BY THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION*
*SCREENED AT NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BIOLOGY TEACHERS CONFERENCE*
"Although Charles Darwin made significant contributions to modern science, the implications of his theories on religious thought are also of great interest. What better way to explore this timely issue than through Darwin's own religious journey? In this intellectually provocative documentary film, director David Wollert personalizes one of the great controversies of the modern era. The viewer is asked to take Charles Darwin's faith journey.
Incorporating voice-over's from his journals and autobiography, the film traces Darwin's personal and professional life as it documents his transition from theism, to deism, to agnosticism. Supportive of both evolution and religion, Paradise Lost tells the story of one man's struggle to comprehend a world explained both by religion and by the science that bears his name."
All are invited to attend.

"Sacred Choices and Abortion" screening Friday
ALL ARE WELCOME to join the Women's Resource Center for this month's Feminist Film Fridays series. We will be screening the documentary, "Sacred Choices and Abortion: 10 New Things To Think About."
"Sacred Choices and Abortion" explores the "big lie"
that religion is opposed to a woman's right to choose. Ten insightful segments feature scholars from major faith traditions-Christian, Muslim and Jewish-as well as women and girls whose lives have been forever changed by abortion. Both thoughtful and dramatic, "Sacred Choices and Abortion" radically reframes the debate over reproductive rights in our highly religious culture.
