He Qi in Chapel Jan. 21 and in the Gage Gallery
Augsburg College continues the Vocatio Chapel Series on "Faith & the Imagination: The Call to the Arts" with renowned Chinese Christian painter, He Qi. He Qi is currently featured in the Gage Gallery in Oren Gateway with his exhibition, "Look Toward the Heavens" until February 15. He will also be speaking in chapel on January 21 at 10:20 in the chapel.
He Qi has been committed to the artistic creation of modern Chinese Christian art since 1983. He hopes to help change the "foreign image" of Christianity in China by using artistic language, and, at the same time, to supplement Chinese art the way Buddhist art did in ancient times. In his works, He Qi has blended together Chinese folk customs and traditional Chinese painting techniques created an artistic style of color-on-paper painting.
A lunch will be held following chapel at 11:00. Anyone interested in eating lunch with He Qi should contact Ross Murray at murray@augsburg.edu for an RSVP.
Prague: Have a Bohemian Summer Adventure
This summer the next adventure to Prague begins. Prague is our home base for exploring the economic forces that have shaped contemporary Czech life. Students will examine the history, culture, and economics that have shaped the privatization process, and the opportunities and obstacles for modern Czech life and the EU.
Come see the most beautiful city in Europe and be a part of a new cultural experience. The Czech Republic is different enough that your cultural compass will be changed, yet be familiar enough to enjoy your transformation.
This summer course, INS-495, meets an Augsburg Experience requirement, and is an Interdisciplinary course with no prerequisites.
For more info call the Study Abroad office or email Professor Stuart Stoller at stoller@augsburg.edu

Undergrad/Graduate Level July '09 Namibia Course
A brown bag information session will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009, from noon 1 p.m. in Oren Gateway 114 to answer your questions regarding the Summer Session II NUR 562 / WST 362 Walking the Truth: Culture, Gender & HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa course. (NOTE: Students must reserve July 2 19, 2009 for travel to and from Windhoek, Namibia with classes and service learning experiences being held July 4-19, 2009.)
This broad-based course explores the influence of culture and gender on the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa. The natural history, biology, and epidemiology of AIDS in Africa, as well as socio-cultural, ethical, theological and political responses to the disease are examined through readings, structured dialog and service-learning experiences with persons actively involved in curbing the crisis. Critical reflection on the unequal infection rates between women and men in Africa illuminates underlying cultural beliefs, values, and traditions that both promote and hinder the spread of HIV within African populations. In this context, women's collective and individual efforts to preserve the health of their families and communities are highlighted as hopeful and positive responses to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa. (Fulfills the global experience requirement for a major or minor in Womens Studies in Augsburg's Core Curriculum)
If you would like more information, the following link provides you with the course flyer. http://web.augsburg.edu/~wades/SSII09WalkingTheTruth.pdf
We look forward to seeing you on February 5, OCG 114, noon - 1 p.m.
Augsburg Greenhouse Gas Inventory Completed
Augsburg College Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory is completed and now can be viewed at: http://acupcc.aashe.org/.
The inventory was conducted to meet requirements of the Presidents Climate Commitment that Paul Pribbenow signed in the fall of 2007. Augsburg along with hundreds of other colleges and universities have committed themselves to a goal of carbon neutrality as soon as possible. Our inventory shows that our current output of greenhouse gases is comparable to other institutions of our size. Augsburg produced 21,670 metric tons of CO2e in FY 2008 and that amounts to 6.2 metric tons of CO2e for every full time equivalent student on campus and 20.7 metric tons of CO2e for every 1000 square feet of building space.
CO2e stands for carbon dioxide equivalents and the term allows a common term to measure the global warming potential (GWP) of all gases including carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide has a GWP value of 1, CH4 is 21, N2O has a value of 310 and some chlorofluorocarbons are 1000 or more.
To learn more about our inventory, inventories from other institutions and about global warming go to: http://acupcc.aashe.org/.

Hopefully this will aid you in your efforts to serve our students while ensuring we remain in compliance with FERPA.
