CTL Workshops: Designing Effective Assignments
The CTL Workshop "Designing Effective Assignments" will be offered Wednesday May 7 at 5 p.m. (We hope this time will accommodate adjunct faculty schedules) and will be repeated on Thursday May 15 at 9 a.m. Workshops are held in Lindell 202. 1. Tylenol Scholarship
Training qualified people to work in health-related fields is critical to achieving Americas high standards of healthcare. However, education costs are rising steeply, making it increasingly difficult for some of you to and your parents to keep up. Thats why Tylenol is continuing their annual scholarship program.
In 2009, the maker of Tylenol (pain killer) will be awarding a total of $250,000 in scholarship money to outstanding students who are pursuing health-related studies. Apply online at www.tylenol.com/scholarship, access key TYNL. Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2008.
2. Mike Augustin Scholarship
The Mike Augustin scholarship fund has been created in honor of the former St. Paul Pioneer Press sports writer. Mr. Augustin covered Minnesota sports for many years. He was especially fond of the Minnesota private schools and their emphasis on a liberal arts education. Believing in the importance of acknowledging the fine accomplishments of those who dedicate both time and energy in being a student, the Mike Augustin scholarship fund is offering four $500 scholarships to qualified applicants.
Qualification requirements include:
1. Must be a Junior or Senior, full-time college status for the enrollment year;
2. Must have a major in the field of communication studies or education;
3. Must be enrolled in a 4-year private college or university in the state of MN;
4. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above
Application requirements include:
1. Submit a 1 page essay that includes your goals and future professional aspirations in your field of study. You may want to include an experience that has been important in clarifying or strengthening your motivation for a career in communication studies or education.
2. Provide a current college transcript.
3. Provide one letter of recommendation.
4. Completion of included application (please copy and paste application below on WordDoc).
5. Complete applications must be received by June 1 of the enrollment year.
6. Previous winners are not eligible.

Auggie Softball in MIAC Playoffs!
Augsburg's softball team will compete for the first time in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoffs, which will be held Saturday and Sunday (5/3-4) at Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview and at the Bethel Ona North Complex in Arden Hills. The tournament has been postponed to Saturday and Sunday due to the threat of rain on Friday.
Action starts on Saturday at 1 p.m., as No. 4-seed Augsburg faces top-seed St. Thomas, the No. 4-ranked team in the country, at Rice Creek Fields. Gustavus and Hamline will face off in the other first-round game at 1 p.m. at Bethel. The winners and losers of the first-round games will meet at 3 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament, with the winners playing at Rice Creek Fields and the losers playing at Bethel. Games continue on Sunday starting at 11 a.m., with all games taking place at Rice Creek Fields.
To get to Rice Creek Fields from Augsburg, take I-35W north to the County Road J/85th Avenue exit. Take a right onto 85th Avenue, and a right onto Rice Creek Drive. The field will be about a half-mile south on the left side. (exact address for Google Maps/Mapquest users: 5880 Rice Creek Parkway, Shoreview, MN 55126).

Donate Your Furniture
Moving but don't want to haul that big furniture item away? The Department of Languages and Cultural Studies is looking for a few pieces of furniture for the lounge area on the 2nd fl. of Old Main. We are mainly interested in sofas and love seats, but would consider chairs, as well. The items need to be in good shape, since they will used in a public space.
