The Public Safety Department will be changing the batteries in the smoke detectors in the rooms of 2nd and 3rd floors of New Hall starting on Dec 15th.

If you are leaving your vehicle on campus unattended over winter break, please park it in Lot G (the lot behind the WEC/Grad Admissions house) before you leave. You do not need a permit to park there beginning on Monday, December 12th through Saturday, January 21st.

Now that the snow is here, many of us may be affected by snow removal on the city streets. The website listed below contains very helpful information regarding snow emergencies, including the option to be notified about snow emergencies in advance via an e-mail or phone call from the city of Minneapolis.

DAY STUDENT PARKING
Message: Si Melby Hall, including the Fitness Center, will be closed December 23, 2005 through January 1, 2006. It will reopen with regular hours at 6 a.m. on January 2. In addition, there is no open skate/open hockey at the Ice Arena during the same time period.

The new parking lot in the SE corner of campus at the intersection of 25th
Ave S and Butler Pl is open and available for use. Smaller aspects of the project (such as signs and lights) are still under construction and will be finished as soon as possible.

Elise Marubbio Has Book Manuscript Accepted
Message:
Elise Marubbio has just received word that her manuscript, "Death of the Celluloid Maiden: Images of Native American Women in Film", has been accepted for publication by the University Press of Kentucky. The book will trace and analyze the most complex and long-lasting representation of Native American women in the history of American film -- that of the young Native woman who falls in love with or is connected to the white hero and dies for that choice.

Dallas Liddle presented a paper, "Bakhtinian 'Journalization' and
the Mid-Victorian Literary Marketplace," at Oxford University in
Great Britain on November 26. The presentation was part of the
interdisciplinary First Annual Conference on the History of the
Book, sponsored by Oxford's English Faculty.
